What is Nincha?
Nincha is a place for everyone to share stuff. With Nincha, you can share, explore, and access a world of stuff in a easy and useful way. This means everything from text to images, events, bookmarks, business cards, polls, recipes, reviews, and more – if something can be shared online, Nincha is the place to do it. It's where all the shared stuff in the world should live.Sounds good. How do I share stuff?
It's simple. On the homepage or the dashboard, click on the thing you'd like to share (text, image, video, etc.), fill it out (almost all fields are optional), enter the 4-digit captcha, and share it!When something is shared, I am worried that it will be public and everyone will see it. What is Nincha's default privacy setting, and should I be worried?
By default everything shared is public. Public essentially means that the Nincha page will be listed in your public userpage (nincha.com/username), the "Browse" section, the homepage, and the search results for relevant keywords. If you are worried about the privacy of your Nincha, you can set it to private by pressing "make private" in the Options. By doing so, it will be delisted from your userpage, Browse section, homepage, and search results. This also means that Google most likely will not index it, and it will be hidden from the public view of the site (although, it will be visible to anyone with whom you share the link -- do note that it's the link that is private, not the page itself.) If you find yourself setting this option multiple times, you might want to consider changing your default share setting to "Private" under Settings->Defaults. This way, all Ninchas created under your username will be private.
If you are still worried, we allow you to go a step further and set a password to the Nincha. This way, not only is private and delisted from the site's public area, it also requires a password to view it, which you can selectively share with those whom you want to see it.
That explains it. But after I share my content, how do I let others know about it and access it?
This irony of Nincha is that while our tagline is "Share stuff", we're more about enabling people to share stuff than sharing it for them. When you share something, it's up to you to decide who gets to see it. You can IM them the URL, tweet the Short URL, send it via e-mail or SMS to 10 of your close colleagues, post it to Digg or Reddit, or give someone the RSS link to subscribe if you're going to regularly update/edit the content. It's all up to you.But of course, we also do whatever we can from our side to make sure that your content reaches anyone you want to. With the default "Public" share setting, we enlist it in our "Browse" section which reaches people looking for the most popular content in a particular type – say images, or videos. We make it searchable so that if someone is looking for a "Lan Party in San Francisco" and you have an event which is exactly that, they can see and RSVP into it. We also regularly feature great public content on our homepage which reaches our general audience.
But in the end, this is all up to you and powered by you. We're just the middlemen making it easy for people who are looking for something to meet the people who have shared something they're looking for.
Speaking of people looking for stuff, I am one of them. I might not share anything, but I like searching, browsing, and exploring through things which I might find interesting. How does Nincha make it easy for me?
Most people in the world are consumers, and Nincha is dedicated to create a place where you can not only share easily, but consume and explore the things you want to. This is enabled with our search and browse sections. Our search feature lets you essentially look for anything and drill it down by type. For example, I can type "Paris" and choose "Images" from the right-handside "Type" box, which will show me all the images shared about Paris by the Nincha community. Alternatively, I can type it "Pizza" and drill it down to "Recipes" which will show me all the Pizza recipes. This is a powerful way to look for information.Another way to look for things is simply by stumbling upon the latest and greatest stuff. This can be done under our "Browse" section. You can drill down to something by type and check out the "Most Viewed", for example, the most viewed images. This setting uses an algorithm to sort all public items by the number of 'views' and number of 'likes' they get. If you like sites like Digg and Reddit, this is for you.
